Sweaters was traditionally a product category dominated by China. In the past several years, the MGF sweater team has developed a diversified sourcing strategy to offer sweater products from Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and India. In total we have successfully onboarded 24 sweater factories outside China.
With this strong factory base, we successfully helped a women’s clothing specialty retailer that operates around 500 stores in the United States, to increase their non-China sweater penetration by 50% in two years. The initiative was greatly supported and embraced by the customer’s leadership team and highlights the importance of trust and collaboration between MGF and our customers.
Apart from exploring new factories overseas, we still support our Chinese vendors in their efforts to invest and build facilities outside of China to coordinate with the sourcing strategies of MGF and its customers. With the support from our vendors and customers, we estimated that our overall non-China sweater production will surpass China production in 2023 – the first time ever in MGF history!
